Immagine Score of “La fuga in maschera”
La fuga in maschera is a two-act comedy with music by Gaspare Spontini with libretto by Giuseppe Palomba. It was first performed during the 1800 carnival at the Teatro Nuovo sopra Toledo in Naples. For many decades this opera was believed to have been destroyed. Only recently did the municipality of Maiolati Spontini manage to find it and purchase it from Lisa Cox's antique bookshop in London through private negotiations and with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fabriano e Cupramontana and the Province of Ancona. La fuga in maschera was staged in the 2009 edition of the Pergolesi Spontini Festival thanks to the critical edition of the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation, edited by musicologist Federico Agostinelli.
